The Value of CIE-USNC Membership

CIE-USNC represents the United States in the International Commission on Illumination (CIE). The CIE is devoted to worldwide cooperation and the exchange of information on all matters relating to the science and art of light and lighting, color and vision, and image technology. The mission of CIE-USNC is to promote the proactive participation of its members in the governance, technical, and standards activities of the CIE and related technical societies. CIE-USNC sees that the United States industry and government interests are represented in the development of CIE technical reports and standards.

With strong technical, scientific, and cultural foundations, the CIE is an independent, non-profit organization that serves member countries on a volunteer basis. Since its inception in 1913, the CIE has become accepted as representing the best authority on the subjects within its scope and, as such, is recognized by the International Standards Organization (ISO) as an international standards body.

Members of the CIE, within the US and internationally, provide essential scientific and technical leadership in the fields of light and lighting, color and vision, and image technology. CIE-USNC provides a forum for information sharing within the regional community of experts and interested parties.
